Abstract:In this paper, the surface wind speed observation data of 10 national weather stations in Maoming, Yangjiang and Jiangmen in the southwest of Guangdong Province in recent 10 years were collected. The wind shear index calculated by a wind measuring tower in Yangjiang was applied to calculate the specific wind speed threshold corresponding to zero wind power generation, full wind power generation and cut wind power generation at the observation height of 10 meters of the weather station by power law formula. The total hours of specific wind speed, the total duration, annual variation and other climatic characteristics of zero wind power generation, full wind power generation and wind power cut-out events in western Guangdong were statistically analyzed. Results show that: in terms of spatial distribution, the wind resources in the southwestern coastal area of Guangdong are relatively good, with the annual average wind speed between 2.6 and 4.5 m·s-1, the annual average hours of zero wind speed between 1 276 hours and 3 000 hours, and the full wind time in the coastal Chuanshan Islands and Yangjiang area can reach 1 200 hours and 118 hours, respectively, which is the best quality area for wind resource development. However, there is a high possibility of wind power cutout in this region, which mainly occurs during the high incidence period of tropical cyclones from July to September. The wind resources in the northern inland areas, especially in the low hilly areas such as Enping, Yangchun and Huazhou, are relatively poor. The annual average wind speed is between 2.6-4.5 m·s-1, the zero wind speed hour is 3 000-5 500 hours, and the full wind speed hour is less than 30 hours, so it is not appropriate to over-deploy wind power installation projects. In terms of time distribution, the annual mean of zero onset hours in August and September are 371 hours and 367 hours respectively, and the average wind speed is about 2.2 m·s-1. Compared with other months, the average wind speed is significantly smaller. Therefore, it is the most noteworthy month that affects the specific wind speed of wind power generation.
