The methods of calculating upper winds in the WGS-84 and the station-origin coordinate system were given. The difference of the upper winds derived from the two methods was analyzed. The results showed that the upper winds could be calculated in the station-origin coordinate system for the traditional sounding methods, but they should be directly calculated from the position parameters in the WGS-84 for the GPS sounding method.
