    Abstract:

With a state of the art, ocean and atmosphere coupled climate model ECHO-G, the climate during the Little Ice Age (LIA), from 1550 to 1850 has been simulated under the external forcing of time varying solar radiation, volcanic-aerosol, CO2〖KG*2〗and CH4. Based on the model output, the temperature variation features in the eastern Asia during the LIA has been analyzed as a main climate element and compared with the results of reconstructions of climate during the LIA from other authors. It is shown that the ECHO-G simulation of climate during the time of LIA in eastern Asia with the forcing of solar radiation, volcanic activity and green house gases (CO2〖KG*2〗and CH4) is consistent with what have been reconstructed from a lot of proxy data, such as ice core, tree rings, historical documents and loess. The dynamical analysis of the modeling results shows that the main factors which controlled〖KG*2〗and formed cool climate during LIA both in the global and the eastern Asia area are solar activity and volcanic activity. Meanwhile, the relationships between global, northern Hemisphere and eastern Asia temperature variations are explored.
