Abstract:In this paper, the study aims to elaborate the hourly variabilities of UHII in Shanghai under typical weather conditions such as sunny weak wind, strong wind, heavy rainfall and extreme high temperature events based on hourly air temperatures collected at typical urban and rural meteorological observation stations in 2017. Meanwhile, this study further discuss the future trend of UHII in Shanghai combining the long-term trends of the meteorological events of weak and extreme high temperature. From the sunrise to sunset, UHII experienced rapid decrease, stable low value, rapid increase and stable high value exhibiting the periodic diurnal variabilities. The diurnal variation of UHII is as high as 7℃ under weak wind and sunny condition. However, different diurnal variations of UHII are observed under strong wind speed and precipitation, and extreme high temperature. With the decrease of wind speed and climate warming, weak wind and extreme high temperature is increasing rapidly in Shanghai in the past 40 years, which will inevitably aggravate UHII and increase the risk for urban populations.
